Who's Who
Expert: Mitchell L Shiffman, MD is a Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Hepatology Section and Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He received his MD degree from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Dr Shiffman has extensive experience managing patients with all forms of acute and chronic liver disease. Over the past decade he has participated in numerous phase 2 and 3 clinical trials and conducted large investigator initiated clinical trials in the areas of chronic viral hepatitis B and C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and various aspects of liver transplantation. Dr Shiffman has published over 200 original articles, reviews and/or book chapters and has co-edited the textbook Hepatology: A Practical Approach. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Gastroenterology, has served on numerous NIH grant review committees and is a regular reviewer for several medical journals.
